The Council has created a Census 2020 Committee to ensure that everyone is counted in our child care community, especially children under 5, who are typically under-counted. Every 10 years, data is compiled for each household in the United States through a Census Survey. Federal funds, grants and support to states, counties and communities are all based on the results. It is vital for everyone to participate in the Census so that our communities get a fair share of the more than $675 billion annually that is allocated based on Census results. This funding supports schools, hospitals, public works, child care and other vital programs.

On October 24, 2019, seventeen teachers working in Westchester County child care programs, were honored at a graduation ceremony for having completed the Council’s Preschool Child Development Associate Course. They begin this intensive 120-hour course in March 2019.

70 plus family child care providers from the Council's Quality in Action initiative celebrated their work and each other at a dinner at Juliano's Caterers on Friday evening. A big thanks to Teresa Garcia of CCCW and Amelia Monroy of Family Services of Westchester (FSW) who support and are inspired by this hard-working group!

On December 3rd Nonprofit Westchester celebrated the work of the nonprofit sector at the Keeping Westchester Thriving Awards event. We are so proud of Juanita Pope, recognized as a member of Nonprofit Westchester's first Emerging Leaders class AND excited about Lindsay Iacovello's starting the program in February 2020! We happily continue to support and encourage our employee’s professional growth.

Thanks to all the early childhood educators who came out on Friday, Oct 18th for our "Prescription for Play" Early Childhood Conference - great location, inspiring presenters, and most importantly, a room full of smart, caring professionals busy launching our next generation. It would not have been possible without the support of the Westchester County Office for Women and the partnership of the Westchester Chapter of the NY Association for the Education of Young Children. A great day!
